Sober St. Patty's Day
I was green with envy that day... (lol, I'm punny)
But in all seriousness, it's probably once a week that I say "gahhh I miss drinking" (but obviously I'd give it up a million times to grow a child in me!). This day, I said it a lot. I miss Irish Car Bombs. I miss wine. I miss Stella. I miss mimosas. And the day will come that I will get all those things. But now's not that time.
I made the most of what the day was and Matthew and I went out with our friends for the day. I drove in the most non-petty manner and they drank (for me!! I told them they had to). Our first stop was this really cool place called Smoke Bourbon & BBQ on Broadway in Columbus. The environment was awesome and they put on a pretty good show (decor wise). I was feeling the place big time. Downstairs they have the restaurant and upstairs they have an open balcony with games and beer and you get to see all the amazing infrastructure in the area. We had a blast there (even though we just ate), then booked in to take the first Irish Car Bomb of the day. What better place to go to than Murphy's.
Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub & Eatery in Downtown Columbus, GA
This place was awesome because it was the total package! Super pub-like (I say this because I've been to some pubs that are straight up bars. You can't have the name and not the feel). It was two or three doors down from the first spot so everything was in walking distances (good for my patitas). It had live music going, an outside patio, green beer (!!) and some soccer games on. They even went as far as to serve me green water (upon my request and free of judgement...or as much as they could hide). Super cool place all in all. We met some awesome drunk people, took some selfies, a few ICB's and hid the walk to another place.
Matthew doing an Irish Car Bomb because those were/are our favorite things and even though I couldn't do it, he could!
A fountain in the middle of downtown that the town turned GREEN in honor of St. Patrick's Day!
This water fountain was a huge hit because there were dozens of people walking by and taking pictures with it. We all (our friends and Matthew and I) took about three rounds of pictures to get "the right one" (which we never got) and had to fight through crowds just to do so. Plus, it was in the center of the downtown street so was super accessible and popular.
After our fountain adventures, we headed over to this place called The Tap which was just across the street and maybe two doors down from Murphy's. This place was cool but not at the same time. It was hot as balls but I think because they had an outside patio that they left the door open on. So while it was hot outside, it just kept flowing in. So we were sweating bullets while the crowds just kept pouring in and we tried not to get too close to anyone for body heat measures. The pro? They had a new version of a jukebox that allowed us to listen to any music we wanted!! (Much better than the bars that have their own crummy picked stations). Another pro? They drinks were extremely well priced! Either that, or we are just immune to New York pricing and think everyone else everywhere are gods. But the guys and girls loved them and drank them down, so they had to be good! Plus, this place got everyone feeling all types of good. So they were definitely doing something right.
After The Tap (yea, we left for some reason), we went over to The Cantina, which is a great Mexican restaurant we went to for National Margarita Day and they were apparently some bomb drinks. They had margaritas WITH a shot of Jameson on the side for like, $9 or something like that. Apparently, they were a steal because everyone was NUTS for them and the line went out the door. Anyhow, we jumped in and out of there for the rita's then headed back to Smoke Bourbon for some rooftop action and cornhole. Matthew and I kicked butt there while the gang sipped on their VERY GREEN margaritas and another couple of our friends ate (like responsible grown-ups who had drank too much on empty stomachs). After the sun scorched down on us long enough, we hopped around to The Tap again then possibly some other places before we realized it was late, we were hungry, and everyone else was getting the same idea as us. We went over to The Cantina and tore up some Mexican food.
All in all, St. Patrick's Day with Matthew was a blast. I don't know that we had ever spent one together and while we were extremely NON-festive, it was a total blast. Plus, we spent it with our closest friends and enjoyed the heck out of ourselves. And, while I seem like a totally horrible mom, being sober for nine months is absolutely NOT the worst thing in the world. As much as you would not believe, it's still possible to have fun sober!! (Yes, sarcasm to the as much as you would not believe. Serious on the still having fun.)
