Our Sanctuary

Our Sanctuary

Ever since Matthew and I got married, we always agreed to have our room be our safe space. We have two dogs (Winnifred and Carmello) and before we were married, Winnie used to sleep with me in my room. While it was great at the time, we said that once we had our own space, we had to keep it as our own. We decided that whether it be kids or dogs--our room was off limits. We want to be able to have our alone time when needed and not have to worry about the dogs coming in and bothering us or the kids (future tense) running in.

(If you refer back to my very first post, I talk about how intimacy in a relationship is imperative and that Matthew and I always want to keep it that way. That's the main reason we say our room is our sanctuary, our special place. As we always plan to keep it that way!)

In this post, I want to take your through our room to see the furniture/decor/etc. to see why our room is as amazing as it is! (Although, nesting has changed my room arrangement three times since the picture was taken!!)

The most perfect, comfortable bed ever.

The most perfect, comfortable bed ever.

While our pillow cases change often, our bed spread is still the same. We found the white comforter at Home Goods one day for $24.99 and I think it was like, Anne Taylor or something. It's seriously the softest comforter of my life. Our bed sheets are from Target, and if anyone knows West Point, yes--that's green girl on the bed. Matthew says she's the only other committed relationship he's had. (LOL!) My "hey y'all" sign was a Christmas gift from our best friend Alee (bought from Hobby Lobby) but I'm actually going to move it into our entryway of the house. "You have filled my heart with greater joy" sign is also from Hobby Lobby. The rug, which is actually a pretty good size(!) was also bought at Home Goods. We got it for like, $19.99 because there wasn't a tag on it (and I actually picked up some other rugs that fell and someone else was negligent to pick up) so the employee went ahead and gave us the price of a "similar", smaller rug. So sweet! Our bed was a "gift" to us because it was like-new and belonged to Matthews great-grandfather. It was too hard for him and he couldn't use it so once we got married, his parents sent us with it. King size bed for the win and we can never sleep on anything else ever again!! (Spoiled kids, I know.) The throw blanket on the bed was a wedding gift from Matthew's aunt and uncle and is one of the most valued, sentimental item we've ever gotten.

Matthew's grandmother had bought tons of yarn when she was alive because she wanted to make blankets (like such) for her grandchildren. After she passed away, Matthew's aunt Lauren (our wedding witnesses), accumulated all the yarn and used the exact colors she wanted and made us this beautiful throw blanket. It's amazing.

The dressers were something that I searched high and low for. We originally had a a big, brown dresser from Matthew's grandfather that worked really well while we were in New York. It was all we had and loved it. Well, when we got here to Georgia, there are a lot more windows in our room and they're low, so the brown dresser was not working. It took up most of a window, was too tall for me to reach, stuff would fall behind it and get "lost" in the window/blinds and I just couldn't have it anymore. I had a fit and wanted to replace it immediately. (It was the first round of nesting that had kicked in!) Matthew said that if I could sell the dresser on LetGo, and I got it out of the house, I could buy new ones. I literally posted the dresser and within the day and sold it too! The next day, I bought both of these online and we picked them up from Target. (I'm a determined woman. If baby promises me something, I get it!!) Anyway, because Matthew was so understanding and allowed me to get them, he told me that I won the opportunity to put them together! AAAAaaaaalllll by myself! LOL (In his words: "That's why I don't buy new things I have to put together!")

$69.99 at Target but I bought them on sale for $35.99 each!

$69.99 at Target but I bought them on sale for $35.99 each!

These ottomans are heaven! When we were in New York, I'd been wanting one for our living room but could never find one for a reasonable price. When I saw this, it was ON SALE for literally half the price and was the only one there (in this print)! I freaked out and bought it on the spot. Then, right before we were about to leave New York, Annika and I made one last Target run and I saw another one! ON SALE!!! I was like a kid in a candy store and threw the ONLY ONE in our basket again! Such a steal. One of them has ended up in Murphy's nursery and the other wanders around from our living room to bedroom. It's our stash of speakers that we don't know what to do with. Haha I'm sure if you check your local Targets, you can find some like it. Also, every now and again, I'll catch it on sale online! (Matthew secretly loves them because he sits on them when he gets ready. As of right now, there's none in our room and he's so mad about it!)

Anyway, these are all of our major bedroom decorations that make our cozy little room a sanctuary. I hope you appreciate the insight to our home!
