when we moved into this stinkin' house we noticed that we had some roaches crawling around. it wasnt bad at first but we thought "hey, lets get it sprayed and resolve this problem quick" and so we did. spray one.
then we noticed a few weeks later that bugs werent dying and it was actually getting a little worse...so we called again to have it sprayed. we were also informed that we can only get it sprayed once a month so we were kind of peeved and didnt know what the heck was going on. why were these bugs not dying! spray two.
after the second spray, we noticed the cockroaches were not going away. it was getting WAY worse. we couldnt leave any food out, even for just ten minutes. the bugs were everywhere. one night i got up for a late night drink of water when i saw the motherload cockroach convention in my kitchen. there were like, thirty gathered in the middle of the floor. i was livid. i went on a stomping spray and the next morning told the guys "call the freakin' exterminator. i dont care what they say". regardless, we waited the alotted time and they finally showed up. as the pest guy was spraying i was telling him how bad it was and we didnt know what was going on and we needed this solved because whatever they were spraying wasnt working.
**backtrack! a day or two before the THIRD pest guy came in, i went out and bought bug traps because it was just so out of control. it was a pack of twelve and i said screw it and just put them ALL out. with that said, we had actually started seeing a few die off! it was great!**
*back to while the guy was spraying* i mentioned that i had put out the bug traps and they were sort of working and kind of killing some off but didn't know if that was going to work. the guy checks behind the fridge and says "well, i know what the problem is. and i can take care of it (key HUGE smile on my face and rapid head nodding) but not today". well crap. he said we had GERMAN cockroaches and they are way worse than regular roaches. they reproduce like a mofo and he would have to come back to spray but we would have to work off a check list before he could get anything done.
i was so desperate i was like "heck yea, ill do whatever i need to do. gimme the list!" so he showed me and i had some pretty wide eyes. it was an intense list but i knew we needed to do it so i said i would. (he came in one a friday and i told him id have everything done by tuesday when he came in) yea, thats much easier to say. matthew had finally come in from the field so that weekend we were just trying to spend quality time together. also, some of the roomies we out of town/in and out of the house so it was just hard to "clean everything up". we had to basically bag up our entire kitchen and have it looking like we were moving out so that they could spray. it was the most intense stuff.
monday came around and everyone was home and i thought "okay nows the time. lets get this s*t together" but thats so much easier said than done. by the time bedtime rolled around i had basically given up and just went to lay down. it was simply not enough time to get everything packed up AND live in the house. i said "if its not good enough for him to spray, im telling him not to come back". (shocking, we didnt pass but im glad i didnt tell him not to come back).
anyway, he comes in tuesday and by no surprise he said he wouldnt spray and basically just said put EVERYTHING in heavy duty trash bags. other than that, wed be good. so he gave me another day (and 24 hours time) to get everything else finished which was everything i needed. the roomies were already aware of the fact that we were not eating at home all day and needed to eat out. that made it easy for me because we wouldnt have to worry about use any pots or pans and i started packing up. we went and got more trash bags and cleaning supplies and actually made everything happen! it was great! wednesday rolled around and boom. guy came in and said it was all good and wed get to spraying.
oh! i also forgot to mention! besides all the extensive cleaning, he said i had to be out of the house for FOUR HOURS and the doggies had to come with me! it sounded simple until i realized that four hours is a long time AND what the heck was i going to do with the dogs for that time! it sounded good but then i realized i couldnt take the dogs just anywhere with me. so whatd i do?
when spray guy got to the house, i got the dogs loaded up and hit the road. i went to chickfila and got breakfast thinking that id eat on their benches outside and id be able to feed the pups too. little did i know, this chickfila didnt have benches outside!! so i thought id just go back to post and find a nice place to eat there! i got back home and went to russ pond (a place id seen before but decided i needed to go back and check out) and ate there. i got to catch up with my mom and enjoy the scenery/waste as much time as possible while the dogs enjoyed theirselves. only thing is, theres water there. and i dont trust my dogs enough to not jump in. **oh, four hours turned into five hours for spray man. one hour to spray, four to let it settle** so after about an hour/hour and a half at the pond i decided it was dog park time. hon and i always talk about taking the babes to the dog park but have only done it once. so i drove around post a little to waste time and find an exchange to pee at, then went to the park. of course it was middle of the day so noone had their dogs at the park. (only dogs out were on the track with their owners). so whatd my dogs to? they stood there. and panted. i swung on a swing and winnie ran at dogs barking as they passed on the outside of the fence. then shed run back to me and stand some more. i needed them to tire out. so about an hour passed and i finally decided to load them up because i thought carmello was going to have a heart attack.
we left all the parks and i decided we had about two hours left and i was tired as all hell. i found another exchange to pee at and pick up a snack. then we headed home to sit in the airconditioning and i couldnt decide if i wanted to nap in the car (like the dogs were doing) or watch a movie. i ended up watching a movie until time to get back into the house but it worked out. we got home and were able to get inside. holy moly. roached galore. it was nuts. but hey! it worked!! i found one roach really alive on the ceiling but i killed it and all the other ones we saw even a little alive were dying out. we are bug free today and hoping it stays like that.
bug guy may have to come back in a few days to do an overspray to make sure theyre gone but im hoping its not another one of those "pack everything up" sprays. stay tuned and pray we stay bug free!!!!
